WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after gunmen fired dozens of rounds at a 30-year-old man in Wilmington, Delaware.
In the words of one neighbor, it seemed like the bullets would never stop.
"About 15 to 20 times," said Vincent Miller of Wilmington.
Around 1 p.m. Saturday, in broad daylight, the 400 block of Eastlawn Avenue turned into a firing range.
"It's very disappointing. It's like a retirement neighborhood. It's a lot of older people around here," said Resee Love of Wilmington.
The road covered with shell casings and evidence markers - 28 to be exact.
Neighbors say it's heartbreaking how their quiet neighborhood was turned upside down with violence.
"It's surprising cause stuff like that doesn't happen around here. It's pretty quiet on Eastlawn. I lived here all my life," said Love.
There's no word yet on how exactly this happened.
Police say several men shot the 30-year-old victim in the back and both of his legs.
Even worse, we're told by neighbors they think it was a man who is mentally challenged.
"I do know that there is a mentally challenged person that lives on this block," said Love.
The victim is in stable condition at Christiana Hospital.
His neighbors hope he makes a speedy recovery and returns home soon.
"That's heartbreaking. I hope he's OK," said Love.
