N.J. selling itself nationwide

TRENTON, N.J. - January 24, 2008 - Secretary of State Nina Wells, who is the state's top tourism official, believes a slick new video and travel guide, targeted marketing and the state's own character and charms will increase the $38 billion a year tourism industry.

She says the state's marketing slogan, adopted in the fall, reflects the strategy: "Great destinations in every direction."

The fall marketing campaign featured 14 locations considered attractive for autumn tourists, including Rutgers University football, the Breeders' Cup horse races and Cape May's bed and breakfasts.

Travel and tourism is serious business in New Jersey. More than 71 million people visited the Garden State last year.
