The crash on I-95 south at Route 1 happened just before 12:30 a.m. in Christiana, Delaware.
Police say the driver rammed the back of a tractor trailer and then caught on fire. A good Samaritan pulled the driver from the car, but the driver died.
Traffic on the highway was not being affected during the morning commute.
The identity of the driver has not yet been released. The good Samaritan needed treatment at the scene for minor injuries.
