Cops investigate washed-up human jawbone

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - February 5, 2008 Lt. Detective Anthony Deely said the bone, a lower mandible, was discovered in the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge by a man walking nearby.

It could not immediately be determined if the bone was from a man or a woman.

Capt. Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office told the Asbury Park Press that further tests are being considered.

Mohel said authorities will try to compare the bone to available dental records on missing persons cases that they have open to see if it matches anyone.
