Ticker Tape Tally

NEW YORK (AP) - February 8, 2008

The conquering NFL heroes were welcomed home Tuesday with a ticker-tape parade in Manhattan.

And now we know just how much ticker-tape was dumped. New York City's Sanitation Department says fans tossed 36-point-five tons of paper on the Giants.

But that's far from the record. More than 5,400 tons of confetti had to be swept up after the Allied victory in World War Two in 1945.

Joe Timpone is a former Sanitation Department staffer known for his ticker-tape trivia. He notes today many office building don't have windows that open.

Than there's the fact that ticker tape isn't used any more.
