Tropicana appeals decision

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - March 4, 2008

Tropicana Casinos and Resorts Inc. contends the decision by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission to deny its license renewal was "arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable."

The company is an affiliate of Kentucky-based Columbia Sussex Corp.

The casino commission's ruling forced the company out of the Atlantic City gambling market in December, less than one year after it took control of the property from Aztar Corp.

Tropicana was cited for poor service after it cut more than 900 jobs, leading to problems with cleanliness and service.

The casino is currently under the supervision of a state-appointed trustee and must be sold.
