Need lots of green to buy these snakes

March 5, 2008

And it takes plenty of green to buy one.

But the snakes come in a variety of colors, which has inspired breeders and collectors.

The pricey pythons typically sell in the $1,000-$5,000 range.

But unusual snakes go for more than 10-grand.

Green tree pythons can have spots and patterns of yellow, white and blue.

Longtime breeder Tim Morris, a Maryland schoolteacher, is credited with creating the first all-blue green-tree python.

But Morris says even having blue parents doesn't guarantee a blue baby snake.

He adds you can't tell the adult color of a green-tree python until the snake is about a year old.
