Modern day portrait competition

WASHINGTON (AP) - April 7, 2008

The National Portrait Gallery wants modern-day portraits and is staging a second national competition to promote them.

The Smithsonian Institution museum says entries will be accepted online June 2nd through July 31st.

Portraits created in 2007 or later from any visual art medium are eligible.

And you don't have to paint anyone famous.

Wisconsin artist David Lenz won the grand prize first time around for a painting of his son entitled "Sam and the Perfect World."

If you win, you'll be able to buy plenty of paint and canvases. The grand prize is $25,000.
