Brush fire strikes the Pine Barrens

BARNEGAT, N.J. - April 19, 2008 Chopper 6 was over the scene around 6 p.m. as firefighters got things under control.

The fire burned about 75 acres near Route 72 and the Garden State Parkway. Nearly 50 homes and a campground were evacuated as a precaution - no injuries or building damage reported.

The fire was near the site of last year's Pine Barrens blaze, which destroyed 17,000 acres. That fire was started by a flare, fired from an F-16 at the Warren Grove Range.

No idea yet how Saturday's fire started.
