Man charged in 'Robin Hood' gas scam

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - May 16, 2008 Police say Michael Myers filled the tanks of dozens of vehicles until an accountant noticed the suspicious charges and notified police about the "Robin Hood" gas scam.

Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Anthony Gil says Myers swiped the card once, pumped gas into his own car, then handed the hose to the next person who gave him half the money for the sale.

Officials say Myers did it dozens of times between November 2007 and January 2008.

Gil says Myers kept the money he received from the other drivers.

Myers is facing charges of theft, receiving stolen property and related offenses.
