Berks teacher arrested in drug case

READING, PA. - May 16, 2008 53-year old Susan Siegel of Schwenksville, PA was taken into custody on Thursday by Berks County detectives, and charged with drug and alcohol offenses.

Siegel was working as a substitute teacher in the Governor Mifflin School District.

Police were contacted by school officials after a high school student in one of Siegel's classes reported that she had approached him in class and asked about purchasing marijuana from him.

Detectives met with the student, who said Siegel had asked him at least twice in class for marijuana and had called his cell phone several times to arrange to meet with him to buy marijuana. Detectives then had the student arrange a meeting with the teacher.

On Thursday, police say the student and an undercover officer met with Siegel in the parking lot of the Queen City Diner on Lancaster Avenue in Reading. At the meeting police say Siegel gave the student a bottle of vodka, and negotiated with the undercover officer to buy approximately one ounce of marijuana. She was then placed under arrest.

Siegel has been a substitute teacher for the Governor Mifflin High School for approximately one month. She was being held at the Berks County prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
