Big Dig contractor charged with false statements
BOSTON (AP) - June 20, 2008 Modern Continental Corp. on Friday was charged in federal court
with making false statements and submitting false time and
materials slips on contracts.
The U.S. attorney's office alleges the Cambridge-based company
lied about its work on the Interstate 90 Connector Tunnel. A
portion of the ceiling collapsed in 2006, killing a car passenger.
Federal officials also said the company lied about its work on a
section of the Interstate 93 Tip O'Neill Tunnel that failed in
2004.
A Modern Continental spokesman says the company will issue a
statement later Friday.
