Police find hand grenade in home

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - June 27, 2008 Police who had responded for a report of a shooting in the 25-hundred block of Sheridan say instead of a shooting victim they found an assault victim and later found a hand grenade in the home during the investigation.

It was around 7:45 this morning when police say they arrived at the South Philadelphia location and found a male with a head injury, who told police he had been beat about the head with a gun by 4 males at a home.

When police served the search warrant at the home they came across a hand grenade.

The ordinance disposal unit was called in to deal with that and police are keeping people out of the area of 7th and Porter streets, but thus far there have been no evacuations.
