Girl, 10, OK after West Phila. shooting - Philadelphia News

WEST PHILADELPHIA - July 31, 2008 Tonight, police continue the search for the men responsible.

Three people were injured in a shooting around 9:00 last night in the 100 block of South Ruby Street. All injuries are considered to be non life threatening, but for the child victim who is only 10-years-old it could be earth shattering.

10-year-old Victoria Green seemed focused on keeping her balance as she hobbled along when returning home from the hospital today. A stray bullet pierced the little girl's calf as she played with friends just doors from her home on Ruby Street last night. It was a disturbingly close call that has shaken her family.

Police say gunfire ended a heated argument between two groups of men at the end of the block near Chestnut... not far from 53rd Street. Victoria was playing with her friend Sasha when she was struck. Sasha's mother heard the shots and ran outside.

Tasha, Sasha's mother, says, "We didn't realize the girl was shot at the time. We just seen the flashes from the gun and busy running."

She sent all the children inside with her mother.

Faye Smith tells us, "I came I saw her sitting on the couch. She wasn't crying or anything. I looked at the leg and saw the hole in her leg."

While waiting for an ambulance, Victoria reportedly tried to comfort her mom.

Today, neighbors offered support. Her friends were relieved to see Victoria come home.

Before taking a breather from the ordeal, Victoria's mom did share a bit about her daughters condition, saying she was doing well.

The other two victims, a 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, are recovering. One is wanted in connection with unrelated shooting last week. Police believe both were involved in the argument that lead to last night's shooting.

Police have questioned people, but as of yet made no arrests in this conflict that appears to have been over a woman.
