Getting ready for kindergarten

Experts agree that kindergarten lays the foundation for your child's education. So you want to do everything you can to ensure a good start. Programs vary, but just about every school does something this summer to welcome kindergarteners before class begins.

Nursery school, home computers, and even television all make kids more aware of the basics than their parents were. So today's kindergarten is more than just preparation to learn.

Now is the time to see your child's healthcare provider, because schools will want a health certificate, including an up-to-date immunization record.

Visit the school and try to see the classroom and meet the the teacher.

If your child will use the bus, ask about a practice ride.

There are even books you can read to your child about the big day.
