Good Samaritans save man from house fire

GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. - August 14, 2008 The fire broke out around 6 a.m. on the unit block of Sherry Lane near Lynn Drive in Gloucester Township.

Jackie Lawrence, who is a firefighter in Bricktown, New Jersey, happened to be staying with her grandmother while taking a paramedic exam. She heard screaming and ran outside.

The house was heavily involved. A man was screaming out a second floor window and told the neighbors that he had a ladder in the shed. Lawrence, 14-year-old neighbor Joe Makovec, and an unidentified male said that they put the ladder up and saved the homeowner.

The victim was taken to Stafford Hospital with smoke inhalation.
