A heroic rescue saved a man from a multi-alarm house fire in Camden County. The fire broke out around 6 a.m. on the unit block of Sherry Lane near Lynn Drive in Gloucester Township.

Jackie Lawrence, who is a firefighter in Bricktown, New Jersey, happened to be staying with her grandmother while taking a paramedic exam. She heard screaming and ran outside.

The house was heavily involved. A man was screaming out a second floor window and told the neighbors that he had a ladder in the shed. Lawrence, 14-year-old neighbor Joe Makovec, and an unidentified male said that they put the ladder up and saved the homeowner.

The victim was taken to Stafford Hospital with smoke inhalation.

Unfortunately, firefighters were unable to save a number of pets.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
