Phillies continue road trip with weekend series against Padres

The first stop on the Phillies' trip to Southern California couldn't have gone much worse, as they fell out of first place in the NL East. They have reason to believe things will improve, though, as they move on to San Diego. The Phils open a three-game series against the Padres tonight, trying to avoid dropping five straight games for the first time in eight weeks.

Philadelphia went into its series against the Dodgers on Monday with a two-game lead over the Mets in the East, but after losing all four games in LA, the Phils have dropped one game back of first-place New York.

Philadelphia managed only two hits in Thursday's 3-1 loss.

The Padres have the second-worst record in the National League. They beat Milwaukee 3-2 on Thursday, but haven't won consecutive home games since mid June.
