Police identify gunman in officer's death

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - September 23, 2008 - That man has been identified as 27-year-old Daniel Giddings.

Police say he was involved in the shooting in North Philadelphia that left 30-year-old Officer Patrick McDonald dead, and 35-year-old Officer Richard Bowes injured with a gunshot wound to the hip.

Few details about Giddings have been released so far, but Action News received a police bulletin from late August 2008 about Giddings as officers searched for him.

At the time, he was wanted for assault after a fight between himself and four officers. Two of those officers required treatment for their injuries.
