Mary Jane Lane's vanishing act

LINWOOD, N.J. (AP) - October 26, 2008 Mary Jane Lane is in a tiny cul-de-sac in Linwood. And the street signs there have a long history of disappearing in the middle of the night.

Officials say various theft-proof measures haven't deterred cannabis enthusiasts from repeatedly taking the signs. They've sawed through a street pole and dug up a pole attached to a cement block in order to make off with the sign.

However, Mary Jane Lane isn't the only area road targeted by thieves.

Harley Avenue in Egg Harbor Township has seen its share of sign-thefts, as has Cape May Avenue in Estell Manor; its county road designation is Route 666.
