Crews battle Hatboro underground fire

HATBORO, Pa. - December 21, 2008 Firefighters were called out to the 200 block of North York Road in Hatboro around 10:00 p.m. after they received several calls.

Crews found smoke pouring from manholes in the area and immediately called for assistance from PECO crews as well as additional fire crews from neighboring companies to help fight the underground fire.

Fire crews were fighting a small fire underground and called in a tanker to flood out the fire.

PECO said they needed to replace damaged wires before restoring power to the 78 homes and businesses that were affected.

Officials called in the Red Cross and a temporary shelter has been set up at Hatboro City Hall to house residents who did not have a place to go.

Power was restored at 7:30 p.m.
