Driver in fatal crash is paraplegic

NEW CASTLE, Del. - December 24, 2008 - Twenty-eight-year-old /*Joseph Taye*/ of Bear is charged with manslaughter, assault and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say his car went out of control Saturday night and struck firefighter /*Michelle Smith*/ and an injured motorcyclist she was assisting.

Taye's BMW was not equipped with devices that allow a person whose legs are paralyzed to drive. Police found the stick in his car after the crash. A similar stick was found in Taye's car after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident last year in Elkton that injured two women.
