Sledding child hit by SUV

GLENDORRA, N.J. - January 28, 2009 - At approximately 3:10 pm, Gloucester Township Police units were dispatched to the 100 block of 9th Avenue in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township for report of a young boy that was struck by a vehicle and reported to be trapped beneath it.

Numerous police units arrived on location and found an 8-year-old boy trapped under a SUV.

The boy was reported to be sledding down the driveway of a residence and slid underneath the SUV as it was pulling away from the curb.

Traffic in the area of 9th Avenue and Central Avenue was diverted while rescue personnel removed the boy.

The Glendora and Chews Landing Fire Departments extricated the 8-year-old.

The boy was treated by Gloucester Township EMS and Virtua Paramedics.

He is being treated at Cooper Medical Center and expected to recover.

The crash is still under investigation by the Gloucester Township Traffic Safety Unit.
