Police ID murdered pizza shop owner

TELFORD, Pa. (AP) - February 17, 2009 An employee found the body of Antonio Lombardo yesterday inside Lisa's Pizza and Italian Restaurant in Telford, Pa.

Lombardo had been in business there for more than 20 years.

"He was just the nicest guy you could meet," said Brandon Fretz of Telford. "We've been coming there since we were little kids and he used to give us free water ice and just let us hang out."

Robbery may have been the motive, but investigators are not sure.

Police say Lombardo was attacked sometime before 10:00 a.m. Monday. It's a time, detectives say, Lombardo was normally alone in the shop. An employee, who arrived earlier than normal, found Lombardo's body.

One theory is that the employee may have startled a robber-turned-killer who fled the scene.

Police searched storm drains and trash cans Tuesday for a possible murder weapon or any other clues.

It's the first murder Telford's police chief knows of in his town, and he's been on the job 40 years.

On Tuesday morning, police were stopping traffic and handing out leaflets on Reliance Road, looking for the public's help in finding Lombardo's killer.
