February 22, 2009 7:49:31 AM PST
A police officer from Abington Township along with a neighbor rescued several residents trapped on the upper floor of a burning home overnight. The police officer was patrolling in the 300 block of Old Welsh Road around 1:45 a.m. when he noticed smoke and flames coming from a home. At the same time a neighbor was also woken up hearing screams and went to get a ladder for the police officer.

The officer was able to get to a second floor window and wakeup the sleeping residents who were then able to climb out the window to safety.

There were no injuries reported

Abington firefighters along with neighboring crews worked to bring the fire under control, but not before the home was destroyed.

No word yet on what sparked the blaze.
