Bella Italia at flower show

CONVENTION CENTER - February 27, 2009 From the big displays to the smaller details.

"When we say Italy, what do you think of? They say the gardens, the wine, so we chose to stay with the theme," Tom Taylor of Irwin Landscaping said.

Taylor wants visitors to feel like they stepped onto a terrace in an Italian garden.

Wine bottles are a central theme in the exhibit.

The color palette evokes images of a vineyard sunset.

Jamie Rothstein Floral Design used them the colors in her exhibit, because they remind her of her Italian trip last summer.

"I was hoping to achieve the feel of romance in the wonderful city of Venice," Jamie Rothstein said.

Rothstein witnessed a wedding procession in a gondola.

She wants visitors to the flower show to feel like they were there, too, so she used every inch of her display space.

Another Italian vacation inspired the Jacques Amand display.

The Palio horse races are in the town of Sienna every summer.

This unusual tradition led to sculptor Lisa Fedan's creation.

"When they said Italian theme, we thought a while and we said, aha! Palio. Which is the name of the horse races," Ed Wiggers of Jacques

Images of Italian life are everywhere at this year's Bella Italia flower show.
