Golfer not expecting this hazard

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - March 19, 2009

But in this case it wasn't sand or water -- it was explosive.

A golfer looking for an errant tee shot found a half-buried hand grenade near the eighth fairway of the Augusta, Ga., Municipal Golf Course.

Bomb squad members decided not to take any chances and detonated the grenade in a controlled blast.

It was a so-called "pineapple" grenade, the type used by the military from World War I until Vietnam.

Officials note that during the First World War what's now the golf course was part of an Army base.
