Fatal accident in Newark

NEWARK, Del. - March 20, 2009 Preliminary investigation indicates that a Chrysler Cirrus was traveling northbound on Route 896 when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes.

As it entered the southbound it was struck by a Jeep Cherokee and a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The Cirrus was driven by Erin E. Plummer, 28, of Media. She had to be extricated from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead after being transported to Christiana Hospital near Newark. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was also transported to the hospital and no further information is available on the condition of that driver.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and the roadway was reopened at approximately 7:00 p.m.

No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
