Investigators say it all began on Sunday, when the fire department was called out for a small fire in a garage on the lot at 2944 North Marshall Street.
Firefighters found the roosters in a garage. Some were roaming freely, the SPCA says, while some others were contained.
The SPCA obtained a warrant, and entered the property Monday afternoon.
In addition to the roosters, the agents say they found a fighting ring and fighting paraphernalia.
Monday evening, Rivera told Action News that police have it all wrong. He says the birds weren't for fighting, but for food.
"I'm cooking. I make soup in there. I don't fight," Rivera said.
The SPCA says the roosters will be euthanized, while the hens and chicks that were found will go up for adoption.
