Sex assault near Haverford College

HAVERFORD TWP., Pa. - April 14, 2009

Two passersby found a woman crying for help about 4 p.m. just off a walking trail near the Ardmore Ice Skating Rink.

The woman, a student at Haverford College, said she was attacked and assaulted by a man with a gun. She described him as:

  • In his 40s
  • about 5' 8" tall
  • light-colored, grayish hair
  • wearing glasses, khaki pants and a long sleeved blue shirt

The man forced the woman to a secluded part of the woods near the trail, ordered her to remove some clothing and assaulted her, according to the police report.

The victim said she lost conciousness during the assault, and when she recovered her attacker was gone.

The woman was treated at Bryn Mawr hospital. She's expected to meet with police later today, to try to work up a composite sketch of her attacker.

Haverford College is asking students to be on the lookout for anyone suspicious.

Villanova University also issued an alert about the assault, specifically to those students and employees who use Haverford's walking trail. Haverford College is located about three miles east of Villanova.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Mark Johnson of the Haverford Township Police Department Detective Unit at 610-853-1298 ext. 234 or call the Anonymous Tip-Line at 610-853-1298 ext. TIP (847)
