Tanker driver fined after crash, huge leak

BIDDERS CORNER, Del. (AP) - April 16, 2009 Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says about 200 gallons of gasoline spilled onto the soil when 39-year-old William Statts crashed April 5.

He pleaded guilty April 13 and he paid a $1,000 fine plus court costs at a New Castle justice of the peace court.

Delaware State Police cited the Harrington man for unsafe speed after he overturned a tanker on Route 1's Lorewood Grove exit ramp just south of the Roth Bridge.

During the crash, environment officials say 200 gallons of gasoline spilled into the soil and had to be cleaned up.
