A 19-year-old Wilmington man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing a bystander during a shootout last summer. Victor Grantham pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder in the death of Anabel Sanchez.

The victim was killed as she stepped out of her car and into a gunfight in the city's Hedgeville neighborhood. Her daughter, Estrella, was in the car at the time.

Sanchez's widower, 27-year-old Alberto Sanchez, told a judge at Friday's sentencing that the girl has been seeing counselors up to three times a week since the killing and continues to cry for her mother.

After Sanchez spoke, Grantham apologized for the slaying.
