Tech difficulties hit N.J. job seekers

TRENTON, N.J. - May 12, 2009 The New Jersey Labor Department started having issues with its automated phone system that handles unemployment claims on Monday morning.

The software was repaired around 5:30 p.m. after about 52,000 people were unable to get through. Then, the system went down again this morning.

The vendor is working on repairs. Until the phone system is up and working, the N.J. Labor Department is urging people seeking unemployment benefits to use the N.J. Dept of Labor and Workforce Development website.
