Mother, daughter arrested in theft

NEWARK, Del. - May 12, 2009 - Carolyn Paoli and her daughter, Jessica, were taken into custody shortly after the theft on Saturday afternoon.

Police say around 4:35 p.m. an unattended purse was stolen from the Brunswick Blue Hen Lanes on East Main Street.

The crime was witnessed by someone else at the alley, who happened to be a friend of the purse's owner. Investigators say that person said they saw one woman take the purse, and hand it off to another woman. Both then left the building.

However, that witness confronted the women, and authorities say they gave the purse back.

Police arrived on the scene, and they found the women on a DART bus that had recently left the Delaware Avenue transit hub.

Both Carolyn and Jessica Paoli were identified by the witnesses on the scene.

Police say both illegally had prescription drugs and had outstanding warrants on file.

Police add there have been other similar recent thefts from the Blue Hen Lanes, and the defendants' possible involvement in those incidents is being investigated.

As far back as March the women had been banned from the bowling alley due to suspicions about their activities.
