Polls: Christie opens big lead in NJ GOP primary

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - May 20, 2009 A Quinnipiac University poll out Wednesday has Christie leading conservative Steve Lonegan by 23 percentage points among likely voters. A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll has Christie up by 18.

The Quinnipiac poll gives Christie a narrow lead over Gov. Jon Corzine, the incumbent Democrat. Lonegan and Corzine are running about even.

The primary is June 2.

The Quinnipiac poll, taken May 12-18, has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points for likely Republican voters. The Monmouth poll, taken May 13-18, has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
