1 killed in 2-vehicle crash in Newark, Del.

One person is dead, another injured after two vehicles collided in Newark, Delaware.

The accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Old Cooches Bridge Road and Phoenix Avenue, near Cooches Bridge Farms.

When paramedics arrived they found an SUV overturned and a mid-sized car having sustained damage.

The approximately 30-year-old male driver of the SUV was partially ejected from the vehicle. He sustained head and upper body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 19-year-old male driver of the other vehicle sustained a leg injury. Paramedics treated the man during transport to Christiana Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

Heavy storms were coming through the area at that time and police are looking into if heavy rain was a factor in the crash.
