'Call of Duty' tops records with $550M in sales

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - November 18, 2009

That tops the previous record of just over $500 million set by "Grand Theft Auto IV" last year.

The latest in the "Call of Duty" video game franchise went on sale Nov. 10 and quickly started breaking records.

It hauled in $310 million in North America and the United Kingdom alone during the first 24 hours, making it the biggest-selling launch in the history of entertainment.

The five-day figures also beat records set by other media.

After "Grand Theft Auto IV," comes the $394 million in box office sales brought in by the movie "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," according to Activision.
