Corruption trial of ex-Pa. lawmaker opens

HARRISBURG, Pa. - December 4, 2009

Lawyers made opening statements before a Dauphin County jury Friday in the trial of former state Rep. Sean Ramaley of Beaver County.

State prosecutor Anthony Krastek told jurors he'll prove that Ramaley conspired with former House Democratic Whip Michael Veon to obtain a no-work state job.

He said he'll show that Ramaley instead concentrated solely on winning his first campaign for the House in 2004.

Ramaley's lawyer, Philip Ignelzi, said his client showed up at Veon's Beaver Falls office every day and did everything that was asked of him.

He said Ramaley did not run his campaign out of the legislative office.
