Unsecured load causes crash on I-95

CHRISTIANA, Del. - December 8, 2009

The accident happened around 5:35 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 just south of Churchman's Road.

Police say the tractor trailer was transporting several large rolls of paper, eaching weighing several thousand pounds.

One of the rolls, which was not properly secured, caused the straps holding the cargo to break.

The rest of the rolls then went airborne, striking two other vehicles on I-95 before coming to rest in the northbound lanes.

Fortunately, no other drivers were hurt.

The truck driver, Michael Daliessio, 35, of Smyrna, was charged with Failure to Properly Secure Cargo.

During the investigation Interstate 95 was closed for approximately 4 hours while the large rolls of paper were removed from the highway.
