The suspect sped off in a black BMW heading south toward Market Street.
He then led police eastbound down stretches of Market, Chestnut and Ludlow Streets before managing to enter the westbound Schuylkill Expressway. From WB 76, the man headed northbound on Route 1 where he exited at Wissahickon Avenue.
That's where he gave the cops the slip. He remains on the loose.
The officer that was assaulted was not injured.
No word yet what led up to the chance encounter.
