Bandit robs Philadelphia bank

CENTER CITY - December 21, 2009

The holdup happened shortly before 8:15 a.m. at the Sovereign Bank branch at 1500 Market Street.

The robber is described as:

  • Black male in his late 30s
  • Dark complexion
  • 5'7"
  • 170 to 180 pounds
  • Few days of facial hair growth
  • Wearing a black knit cap, a green "Roca Wear" jacket with a thick white stripe down each sleeve and logos on the back and front left chest, black gloves, dark pants and white sneakers

Police say the man entered the Sovereign Bank branch and verbally threatened a teller, indicating that he had a gun but no gun was shown during the holdup. He got an undisclosed amount of cash and ran out of the bank. There were no injuries.

This subject is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at (215) 418-4000 or the Philadelphia Police Department.
