Pa. Teacher pleads guilty in motorcyclist's death

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - January 8, 2010

Thirty-eight-year-old Larry Angney II, of Center Valley, pleaded guilty Thursday to striking and killing motorcyclist Lori Smeltzer on Oct. 9, 2008.

Smeltzer was stopped at an intersection near her home in Allentown when she was struck from behind. She died the next day.

The Quakertown High School math teacher told investigators he thought he'd hit an animal or a street sign and continued on his way. He went to police the next day after seeing news reports about the crash.

Defense attorney John Waldron says Angney has continued to teach while free on bail.

Angney faces at least a year in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 18.
