Steele: Americans breathing 'sigh of relief'

WASHINGTON - January 20, 2010

Appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America," Steele celebrated the fact that Brown, as the 41st Republican in the Senate, could help derail President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Steele says the Massachusetts election results are a sign that Americans want Congress to "slow it down" on health care.

He is advising Democrats to "start from scratch and start by listening to the people."

But David Plouffe, who led Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, is rejecting calls to scrap the bill. Plouffe told ABC that the Democrats have worked out "a good health care plan" that Congress needs to pass.
