Driver strikes bicyclist in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - January 21, 2010

It happened around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at 20th and Jefferson Streets.

Initial reports indicate the driver of a car was speeding and tossing weapons out of a car window near 20th and Diamond Streets. Then, while travelling south on 20th, the driver struck a car with two people inside.

He kept going, police say, then struck the bicyclist at Jefferson Street.

That bicyclist, described only as a man possibly in his late 20's, was rushed by medics to Temple University Hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

The two people inside the car will be okay.

The driver of the striking car hit a wall and was captured by police.
