Police: Woman pistol whipped in purse snatching

NEW CASTLE CO., Del. - March 25, 2010

It happened around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday in the unit block of Boston Place in the Wilmington Manor Gardens community.

When they arrived, police said they found a 47-year-old woman bleeding from injuries to her face.

The victim said she had just returned home and parked in the driveway. While reaching for her purse and opening the door, she noticed a man standing by her car.

She told police the man then pulled out a gun and demanded her purse. When she refused, police say the man struck her in the face and head with the butt of the gun. He then stole the purse and fled on foot toward Colgate Avenue.

The victim described the attacker as a black male with a medium complexion, 5'8", 135 pounds, brown eyes, short cropped hair and a thin build.
