Police: Soccer coach lured teen girls through website

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - March 30, 2010

Police arrested 32-year-old Vincent Mickle on Monday night.

There are six girls involved, ranging in age from 14 to 16. Police say Mickle posed as an 18-year-old boy and befriended the girls on the social networking website MySpace.

Police say the investigation began when Mickle gained the trust of a 14-year-old girl, and soon began exchanging sexually explicit photos with the girl via the website and over cell phones. He then allegedly met the girl at Frankford and Cottman and solicited sex, but the girl did not comply. Soon after, police were notified.

The subsequent investigation turned up five more victims, and police say Mickle had sex with at least one of those girls.

Authorities say the incidents have been going on since 2007.

Mickle is now behind bars on $300,000 bail.

Mickle was a volunteer girls' soccer coach with the Lighthouse Soccer Club three years ago, but sources tell Action News he was let go for being too aggressive with parents. This past fall, he started as an assistant coach for his daughter's team, "The Holy Terror," in Mayfair.

On March 18th of this year, the Director of Recreation was told there is an investigation into Mickle and he was fired.

Investigators say the charges against him do not involve the girls he coached.

Police want to know if there are any more victims out there. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
