Auto makers' new electric cars

March 30, 2010 Its four-door hatchback named Leaf will have a base price of $32,780 but buyers can get a $7500 electric vehicle tax credit.

The Leaf can go up to 100 miles on a single charge from a home outlet and U.S. orders will start April 20th.

Meantime, General Motors will also start selling its rechargeable electric car later this year.

The Chevrolet Volt can go 40 miles on full electricity before a small gas engine kicks in to provide power.

G-M most recently said the Volt would cost consumers $27,500 with the tax credit.

But G-M has also said it's trying to lower the price even further.
