Elderly woman shot in Kensington

KENSINGTON - April 1, 2010 It happened around 2:15 p.m. in the 2500 block of North Water Street in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

In an exclusive video obtained by Action News, a man walks onto Water Street and soon opens fire. He runs past a parked green van where the 76-year-old woman is getting out of the driver's seat.

Action News is told a man off camera fires back.

The original man quickly runs away, back around the corner, on foot as the other man, off camera, takes off in a white car.

From the placement of the bullet hole, police believe it was the man off camera who fired the shot that hit the woman, but detectives are still investigating.

Action News spoke to the woman moments after she was released from the hospital. She said she's OK.

The victim said she was sitting in her van filling out her census form when the shots rang out.

"These two guys came out of nowhere, started shooting each other, and I ducked down and I got caught in the leg that's all," the 76-year-old woman said.

Anyone who has information or recognizes the man in the video is asked to call Special Investigation Unit at 215-685-9962.
