Umar Ahmad, 37, of Denny Circle is charged with Rape and Sexual Solicitation of a Child.
He taught at McCullough Middle School.
Police say the investigation began in October, 2009 when officers were contacted by officials from the Colonial School District after being alerted by a teenager student's father.
The father allegedly told school officials that, while checking his then 14-year-old daughter's cell phone, he came across concerning text messages between his daughter and Ahmad.
Police say they learned that, in the months leading up to the 2009 - 2010 school year, Ahmad and the student had exchanged text messages with one another. In October of 2009, the relationship allegedly turned sexual.
As the investigation continued, police say they learned that Ahmad had also solicited another student who was 15 years old at the time and asked her to send him nude pictures of herself via cell phone.
On Friday, detectives arrested Ahmad at his home.
He was sent to prison on a $40,000.00 secured bail.
