Police: Car found in hit and run of Temple student

CENTER CITY - April 12, 2010

On Monday afternoon officers said they had impounded the car they believe was involved.

However, the driver has not been found.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Third year law student Tony Foltz was walking across the Ben Franklin Parkway at 22nd Street, headed to his apartment, when he was hit.

Foltz was transported to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition where he underwent surgery.

He is suffering from a fracture to the right side of his skull and has a broken tibia and fibula among other internal injuries.

The university says the 24-year-old followed in his parents' footsteps. They both graduated Temple Law in 1980.

Speaking outside the hospital on Monday, Foltz's father said the family is hoping for the best.

"We have reason to be hopeful. We're hoping and praying for a good outcome, and Tony's fighting," said Richard Foltz, Tony's father. "Fighting hard."

Richard Foltz made a plea for the driver to surrender to authorities.

"We understand somebody could make a poor decision. We'd love for a person to come forward so we could understand what happened."

News of the accident spread quickly around the campus of Temple Law, where Tony Foltz was described as a good man and good student.

"He's part of our family," said Dean of Temple Law JoAnn Epps. "Really quiet, good, fun, and an important part of our community."

"He's a great guy, everything a Temple Law student should be, and everything a friend should be," said student Shaun Kuter. "Nicest guy you could ever meet."

Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS.
