Woman struck, killed by Amtrak train in Glenolden

GLENOLDEN, Pa. - April 29, 2010

Police were called around 4:15 a.m. after the 40-year-old woman was hit on the tracks under the Ashland Avenue overpass.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say she was walking on the tracks when she was hit by an Amtrak train travelling from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia.

The victim has been tentatively identified, however authorities have not yet released her name.

After the accident, Amtrak trains along the Northeast corridor, specifically the 67 to Boston and the 190 Northeast Regional train were delayed, as was the SEPTA R2 Regional Rail line from Wilmington, while investigators worked on scene.

Amtrak resumed service around 7:40 a.m.
